Uplands Real Estate & Homes
The Uplands is one of the most well-known neighbourhoods in Nanaimo. It includes all of the areas of Long Lake as well. Its name stems from its location on the hillside overlooking the water. The entire community is full of ravines, beautiful lakes, and rocky, tough-to-navigate hills. Overall, the area is very beautiful and provides some of the best access to waterfront views. Yet, it also remains more affordable than some areas.
Key Features Of Uplands
It is important to know the difference between the Uplands and the Long Lake area. Long Lake is a very popular summer tourist spot because of its access to the water. It sits right along the edge, in the hills, surrounding the lake itself. The immediate area surrounding the lake in this hilly area is often called Long Lake Heights. The entire area encompasses Uplands.
While the area is an important summer spot for tourism, it is also well recognized as a desirable place to live. It has a commercial centre with numerous shopping and dining options including Fairway Market and Galaxy Theatre. Most of the homes are close enough to the centre of town to allow for walking to and from destinations. Many of the more tourist-centric areas are along the boardwalk by the lake. Lakeview Park sits on the northern short and Louden Walkway along the south, both of which are ideally suited for those who enjoy nature. The beaches here are popular.
Real Estate In Uplands
Finding a home for sale in Uplands is possible because numerous options exist. However, many of these properties are single family homes sitting along stilts overlooking the lake. Others, especially those in newer developments, are 2 and 3 bedroom homes with spacious plots. Single family homes are most common though some condos are present. Many of the homes date to the 1970's or are newer though some treasured architecturally beautiful properties exist here as well.
Overall, Uplands is very desirable with property values growing by as much as 5.4% from October of 2014 to October of 2015. While still affordable, demand is increasing for this location.
