The neighbourhood of Chase River, often called simply Chase, is an older and more remote area of Nanaimo. Located on Vancouver Island near South Nanaimo, it is perhaps one of the most peaceful of areas. This development is next to the Nanaimo River Estuary, providing some of the best access to the natural components of this region. However, it is also only a few minutes from a more modern and urban area. For those who are looking for a unique combination of plentiful land and close proximity to amenities, Chase River is worth taking a closer look at in most cases.
This is a semi-rural area. You will find a mixture of property types here. Chase River used to be mostly farmland and remains much like this today. Most of the area is residential with a few businesses such as South Gate Mall and Country Grocer being nearby (though not specifically in the neighbourhood itself). It is fairly easy to access Duke Point ferry here and the Nanaimo Airport is only a matter of a few minutes away. Residents also use nearby Nanaimo Parkway to get into and out of Victoria fairly easily.
This mostly farmland area provides residents with access to the Chase River Estuary Park with incredible pathways and forests. Several schools are nearby and shopping centres. Buyers will be only a few minutes from University Village Mall as well.
Most of the homes in Chase River are older. Some are older farmhouses that have plenty of character and a great deal of land. Others are in Cinnabar Valley, one of the subdivisions developed here in the 1970's. Newer developed properties also exist in this area (and continue to grow). One example of a more modern area is the Country Club Estates. For younger families with want more room to all their own, Chase River is an excellent investment. The average home sale price in October of 2015 was about $357,000, but property values are varied. Much of the area is affordable and affords buyers with numerous options for development.
