Perhaps one of the most beautiful areas of Nanaimo, Cedar is an ideal choice for many people looking for a beautiful place to call home. The community is on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island and about 8 km from Nanaimo. The community is also close to Ruxton Island and DeCourcy Island. Purchasing real estate in Cedar allows an individual to have access to numerous home styles and several price ranges. This is one of the more luxurious and beautiful communities in the area.
What To Expect From Cedar
Cedar is a smaller community. As a result, it is mostly residential. There are some commercial components to it, but many people turn to Nanaimo for their commercial needs. Cedar is located just off Yellow Point Road and near the community of Yellow Point. Though smaller, it provides access to some outstanding local amenities. Residents have the opportunity to enjoy a number of artisan shops and restaurants here, but the area is far more remote than other regions in Yellow Point. It is close to the Nanaimo Airport near Highway 19.
The area's history isn't well documented, but a post office established it in 1888. Prior to this, the community was a small, mostly farmed area. Its name comes from the number of Western Red Cedar trees growing in the area. Even today, much of Cedar remains farmland.
Real Estate in Cedar
Purchasing a single family home, a large, expansive estate, or a moderately sized home is quite possible in Cedar. The area is seeing a steady level of growth in home sales. From October of 2014 through October of 2015, the area saw about 6.1% growth in the number of sales. Home values are growing, but remain very affordable here, especially homes with a significant amount of land. The highest value homes are those bordering the ocean. Home values can range from $200,000 up to $1.9 million or more depending on location, size, and features. This in-demand area is one any home buyer looking for a luxurious place to call home should seek out as their investment.
