Extension Real Estate & Homes
There is something mystical and magical about Extension, one of Nanaimo's most desirable neighbourhoods. It is about a ten-minute drive from Downtown Nanaimo, so still provides its residents with access to virtually every need they have. However, it is in a more remote area giving residents more privacy, incredible views of the hills, and access to numerous natural resources. Extension real estate options are not as many as in some areas, but they are often much desired for the large acreage and proximity to the city and nature.
What You Will Find In Extension
Extension is an older portion of Nanaimo. It was once a very large and significant mining community in the early 1900's. Once the mines closed a few decades later, much of the property was left behind. It remains very rural today, but property options range significantly as a result. Its name comes from Extension Road, the main road into the area.
Nature is truly a the heart of this neighbourhood. It is near to biking and hiking trails. It is only a few minutes from Nanaimo River, Extension Ridge, and Beck Lake a very popular fishing spot. For those who need access to schools and commercial businesses, it is a short drive into Nanaimo or surrounding communities. South Gate Mall and Country Grocer are nearby.
Real Estate in Extension
In terms of real estate, several properties are readily available. Much of the area remains rural, with old farm homes and cottage-style homes present. However, some new properties and developments are occurring in the area today. Single family homes are most of what you will find here. Their values are on the rise, with values growing by as much as 1.4% from October of 2014 to October of 2015. Most real estate sold here comes with a significant amount of acreage though smaller plots are available as well.
