Surrounding Towns to Bear Mountain, British Columbia

There are several great towns that are close to Bear Mountain that are made up of welcoming people and attractions that lure the neighboring communities. The towns that surround the town have great shopping, restaurants, and plenty of recreational activities. Some of the surrounding towns are:

Sidney

Bear Mountain to Sidney takes about 34 minutes to get from one city to the other. There are three main ways to commute, and they include bus, car, and taxi. Sidney is a town located at the northern end of the Saanich Peninsula, on Vancouver Island. There are approximately 11,583 residents that call Sidney home with many of them being senior citizens. The town is the only Canadian port-of-call in the Washington State Ferries system.

The most popular attraction is Sidney-by-the-Sea as it is a gateway to the southern Gulf Island National Park Reserve. This is a great area for kayaking, whale-watching, bird-watching, and scuba diving. In the local history museum house, there are displays about the history of the Peninsula. The British Columbia Aviation Museum has artifacts, displays, restored historical aircraft, and a vintage aircraft restorations workshop. 

Vancouver 

Located in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia is the populous city of Vancouver. It lies between Burrard Inlet to the north and the Fraser River to the south. The city has a population of 631,486 and is one of the most diverse municipalities in Canada. Vancouver holds several running races that include the Vancouver Sun Run every April; the Vancouver Marathon, held every May; and the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon held every June. 

Surrey

Surrey lies between the Fraser River and the U.S Border in British Columbia. A white arch in Peace Arch Provincial Park marks the boundary between the U.S. and Canada. The city is the second-largest city in Canada, next to Vancouver with a population of 517,887.

There are many great attractions in Surrey especially in February as the city attracts over 15,000 people for Winterfest, a day of sporting events, food, live music, and fireworks. On the May long weekend, the annual Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair takes place where there are parades, trade shows, agricultural exhibits, and the Pacific Northwest Firefighter Combat Challenge. 

Burnaby

Located in the center of the Burrard Peninsula is the city of Burnaby with New Westminster and Surrey across the Fraser River to the southeast, and Richmond on the Lulu Island to the southwest.

Burnaby has an abundance of parks and the ratio of parkland to residents is one of the highest in North America as 25% of its land is parks and open spaces. If you love to be outdoors, this is the city for you. There are many areas to kayak, canoe, and boat from Barnet Marine Park, Fraser River Foreshore Park, Burnaby Lake, or Deer Lake. Strap on your shoes and hit the path and trails of over 230 kilometers. No matter your fitness level you will find the perfect trail that has beautiful plants, trees, birds, and wildlife. Burnaby Mountain has 26 multi-use trails within the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area, which is a great place to hike, stroll, or go for a bike ride.
