Long Lake Real Estate & Homes
Long Lake is an area in Nanaimo located towards the north side of Island Highway and is a component of The Uplands. The area is widely known as a summer spot when numerous people visit the area from around North America. The neighbourhood of Long Lake is along the edge of the lake and, as a result, homes here tend to have a stunning view of the waterfront. Real estate in Long Lake is growing in popularity, though the area still has a less industrialised feel to it.
About Long Lake
The lake itself is the focal point of this neighbourhood. It once drained into Brannen Lake, but changes due to mining, roads, and rail have diverted the flow into Diver Lake. Nearby mines brought people into this area and the fish and wildlife helped keep them there. This remains one of the biggest reasons so many visitors come to Long Lake each year. The wetlands remain a key component of the area's draw and the city of Nanaimo continues to work to improve the water quality here.
Real Estate in Long Lake
For those hoping to purchase a home in Long Lake, options are readily available. Most of the area is quite affordable especially for waterfront property. The homes here are mostly established, but new developments are still occurring in some areas. Many of the present homes were built in the 1970's through the 1990s. These tend to have larger lots and ample backyard space. Single-family homes are the most common option, but some of the more luxurious properties here along the lake are multi-level, spacious properties on stilts to accommodate for flooding risk.
Highly valuable and often sold quickly, real estate in Long Lake is most definitely an option for buyers looking for a slice of the outdoors in a modern area. Long Lake provides a welcoming atmosphere and a small town feel while remaining close enough to other areas of Nanaimo for amenities.
