Places To Dance in Nanaimo

As far back as the earliest record days of mankind, dancing has been an activity universally incorporated into almost every major and minor creed, culture, or any other belief system. Once upon a time, it was actually something quite sinister, with dancing often being associated with rituals and sacrifices, such as the Sundance.

In contrast to the past, however, dancing nowadays is now primarily an athletic activity or just a way to ‘hang loose’ and have fun. Some people have formed their own rhythm-based workout routines and dance as a way to stay in shape, whilst others prefer to dance after a long and stressful day as a way to cool off and have fun.

Today, we’ll be looking at the top 3 places to dance in Nanaimo, British Colombia. Perhaps you’re just looking to have fun and wind down, or perhaps you’re looking to show yourself off in the hopes of romantic fortune – Whatever the case may be, these are the places you certainly don’t want to miss.

1. Koncept Nightclub

After having been closed for a year due to the COVID-19 crisis, Koncept Nightclub finally opened its’ doors again on 20th June 2021 with a bang – A professional DJ took to the decks, the lights were low, and the overall atmosphere was both mysterious and exciting.

In recent months, Koncept has continued to hold steadfast to its’ goal: To revolutionize the very definition of clubbing down in British Colombia. The venue itself is very spacious, well-kept, and has received a modern overhaul during the period for which its’ doors were forced shut by the pandemic.

If you’re looking for an even more premium clubbing experience, Koncept offers a VIP Lounge which can be accessed with pre-booked passes. So, if you’re looking to have your own space just for you and your friends, this is certainly an option worth considering.

But if you want to take that privacy a step further, Koncept allows you to host private venues which give you control over the bar, music, and the staff. Big family reunion coming up? Dance the night away with a private function. Hen party? Bring your besties and turn up the music!

Standard entry includes basic access to the dance floor, so if you really are just looking to wind down, this is a viable and highly recommended option. VIP access, if you’re willing to splash some cash, allows you to skip the line, bring two friends for free, gives you 25% off VIP booth prices, and even a 10% discount on selected restaurants.

Koncept opens at 9 PM every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and runs through to 2 AM the next day.

2. Level Two Nightclub

Whilst our first pick on this list is still a very good spot, it’s likely to be more oriented towards those who are planning on attending with their own private little group as opposed to those wanting to branch out and meet new people. Well, if you’re somebody who is hoping to dance and dress in order to impress, Level Two Nightclub is a far better choice for you.

Level Two Nightclub is spoken highly of by many regular attendees, including cheap drinks, cheap entry fees (though some nights are free entry), good music, a very sociable atmosphere, and even a place where some of these attendees met new friends and lovers.

One big concern that many people have when going clubbing is the attitude of door and bar staff. Well, at Level Two Nightclub, reviewers speak highly of the bouncers and claim that they are very friendly, welcoming, and even joined in on the dancing later in the night themselves.

Of course, the one thing that compliments dancing in a club better than anything else is drinks. This nightclub offers a fantastic deal on rounds of shots, making them affordable for groups or even just for one individual who is hoping to buy drinks for and impress new acquaintances made on the same night.

If you are going here, however, it should be noted that this nightclub is relatively small in comparison to most others. Though it is still big enough to host a dedicated crowd, it is hardly big enough to create an overwhelming atmosphere, which may be a positive for some. Furthermore, you may want to bear in mind that due to this club’s location, the majority of attendees are actually young adults who are all sifting in from the nearby colleges and universities, so if you are above that age range, you may find yourself feeling slightly alienated by this spot.

Level Two Nightclub opens at 10 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and closes at 2 AM on the following respective days.

3. Palace Hotel

Don’t let the name of this place fool you! No, it is not exclusively for tourists who are staying in the hotel above – Anybody in search of a good time can come to the club. Before we go any further, keep in mind that the hotel’s club is temporarily closed due to COVID-19 guidelines, though the company assures that it will open again soon with strict measures in place.

Prior to the pandemic, Palace Hotel was an excellent place for tourists coming to British Colombia from all over the world. It’s like a dream come true for those of certain cultures to be able to dance, drink, and then simply walk up a few flights of stairs before passing out on their own bed.

Aside from the novelty of dancing, Palace Hotel was also a compact and concise place for tourists to get an idea of what Nanaimo culture is like thanks to the drinks’ menu. Bubblegum shots? Crunch shots? Tequila sunrise? The exotic drinks available at this place only served to make dancing all the more fun.

Even for those who lived locally, Palace Hotel was a fine place to get down and let all your worries go for a night. As such, its’ COVID-19 closure has left quite the mark on Palace Hotel’s popularity, though with the company’s assurance that it is bringing together guidelines to get the club open again as soon as possible, it’s highly likely that its’ reopening night is going to cause its’ popularity to peak.

We recommend this spot simply due to how great it once was – The bar staff were both quick and efficient working behind a vintage counter, the drinks were affordable for all, and the music selection always made for a memorable night. Furthermore, Palace Hotel is a staple for Nanaimo’s history, having been officially opened more than 140 years ago.

It’s unknown what the nightclub hours will be when re-opened, though if they remain the same as before, it will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM every night.

Overall…

As we mentioned at the beginning, dancing has played a silent yet vital role throughout all human history. It’s genuinely hard to believe that the same activity which once led to grotesque sacrifices is the same one that is now practiced in order to have fun and impress potential partners.

As always, remember to be careful with how you spend your money. Whilst you should never get too carried away with alcoholic drinks, clubbing is an experience and experiences are always worth the big bucks.
